Introducing SatHybrid IP – a software-defined satellite receiver that combines satellite and IP into one resilient delivery platform.
As broadcasters migrate from C-band to Ku-band, rain fade becomes a real threat to service availability. Traditional hardware IRDs can’t solve this problem alone. SatHybrid IP can.
What it does:
This is the first product to implement VSF TR-06-4 Part 7 – the RIST Satellite-Hybrid In-Band Method – a standard we co-authored and published in August 2025.
SatHybrid IP locks to two independent satellite transponders simultaneously. Each tuner operates as a fully independent IRD – or both can receive the same content from two different satellites or frequencies for SMPTE 2022-7 seamless protection switching. When one satellite path suffers rain fade, the other keeps delivering. True multi-satellite redundancy from a single box.
Each tuner delivers clean transport streams over IP with automatic error recovery using the RIST protocol. When rain fade causes partial packet loss on the satellite link, missing data is recovered in real-time over an IP return channel. And when rain fade is severe enough to lose the satellite signal entirely, the system seamlessly transitions to Full Stream Recovery (FSR) – the complete stream is delivered over IP until the satellite link is restored. No manual intervention. No service interruption.
This also means SatHybrid IP is future-proof: if you ever decide to move away from satellite entirely, the same platform and protocol stack transitions seamlessly to pure IP-based delivery – no hardware changes, no reconfiguration.
The IP recovery paths support multiple asymmetric network links – different ISPs, different bandwidths, different latencies – all working together to maximize resilience. Dual2.5 Gigabit Ethernet plus Wi-Fi 6 means you have up to three independent IP paths available out of the box – and with an optional 5G cellular module, a fourth.
What’s inside:
- 8-core ARM64 processor with 8 GB RAM
- Dual DVB-S2/S2X tuners – locks to 2 independent transponders simultaneously
- Dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet for redundant IP paths
- Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and optional 5G cellular
- Full web-based management with real-time signal monitoring
- Zero-touch firmware provisioning from the cloud
- Compact, low-power design (under 30W)
What makes it different:
Traditional satellite receivers are closed hardware boxes. SatHybrid IP is a software-defined platform running Coral OS – the same Linux distribution that powers broadcast infrastructure in 50+ countries. Every component is upgradable over the air. Every parameter is tunable from a web browser. And because it speaks RIST natively, it integrates directly into modern IP contribution networks. No protocol conversion boxes. No additional hardware.
The technology behind it:
SatHybrid IP is built by the team that invented the RIST protocol and won a Technology & Engineering Emmy Award for reliable internet media transport. Our unique implementation of this technology – which combines satellite reception with a cloned RF output, enabling simultaneous IP delivery and RF re-distribution from a single software-defined platform – is the subject of US Patent Application 19/434,452.
We’re shipping now. If you’re dealing with rain fade on Ku-band, or looking to modernize your satellite reception infrastructure, let’s talk.
